3D Object Reconstruction based on Structured Light
This work has developed a software system and low-cost hardware that can scan real objects. To do so we used the technique of laser projection, also known as reconstruction by structured light. The real object to be scanned is fixed in a rotation axis and a laser line beam is projected onto its surface, as can be seen on the top of Figure 12. We use a regular webcamera to take images of the target object and, through image processing algorithms, identify the coordinates of the projected beam, which represents the shape of the object. An example of a scanned object can be seen at the bottom of Figure 2.
